Since January 1, 2026, many Ontario homes need a carbon monoxide alarm on every storey.
Since January 1, 2026, an Ontario house with a fuel-burning appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage needs a carbon monoxide alarm on every storey, not only beside the bedrooms. Every Ontario home also needs a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas.
