Each fall, beetles, boxelder bugs and mice look for a gap to get inside.
Multicoloured Asian lady beetles mass in the vineyards each autumn and then cluster by the thousands on sun-warmed, light-coloured walls from mid-September, squeezing through caulking gaps to overwinter. Boxelder bugs do the same. Mice move indoors through September and October, and carpenter ants exploit whatever the wet spring left soft.
