Ontario landlords must keep carbon monoxide alarms working and test them at every new tenancy.
If a rental has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage, Ontario makes the landlord maintain its carbon monoxide alarms and test them every year and at every change of tenancy. The landlord must also keep the unit in good repair, and once someone lives there most entries need 24 hours' written notice, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
